TS EAPCET vs AP EAPCET: Key Differences Every Student Must Know
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh run their EAPCET exams separately. The counselling process, seat matrix, and reservation rules differ significantly β here's what you need to know.
Two States, Two Exams
After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, both states run their engineering entrance exams independently. Many students and parents still confuse them.

Local Area Reservation
This is the most misunderstood part of EAPCET counselling.
Telangana (TS EAPCET)
- 70% of seats reserved for candidates from the district where the college is located
- 15% for candidates from other Telangana districts
- 15% open to all (unreserved)
Andhra Pradesh (AP EAPCET)
- Seats are divided by university zones (Andhra University zone, JNTU Kakinada zone, SVU zone)
- A student from AU zone gets priority in AU-affiliated college seats
- The home university zone has a higher allocation
Category Seats
Both states follow OBC sub-categories (BC-A, B, C, D, E), but the actual number of seats reserved in each category can vary by college depending on minority/non-minority status.
EWS (Economically Weaker Section) β 10% horizontal reservation applicable in both states.
Which Exam Should You Appear For?
If you are from:
- Telangana β Appear for TS EAPCET (mandatory for TS colleges)
- AP β Appear for AP EAPCET (mandatory for AP colleges)
- Both states are open? β You can appear in both exams! Many students do this to maximize options.
